Conferences

The annual conference performs a governing role in the organisation of the Fellowship and in addition provides a wide range of entertaining and informative events, usually linked in some way to its location. Recent conferences have been held in London, Bristol, Adelaide and Canterbury. The Annual Conference page.

London Programme

A substantial programme of events is arranged in London every year. It always includes a variety of informative and entertaining talks, typically given by leading scholars, and

  • a dinner to mark the birth of Charles Dickens (7th February 1812)
  • a commemoration service at St George the Martyr, Southwark (Little Dorrit's Church)
  • a wreath-laying ceremony at Westminster Abbey, to mark the death of Charles Dickens (9th June 1870)
  • a Christmas supper.

Branch Programmes

Each of the branches arranges a programme of events to suit local circumstances and membership interests. Details are not normally available centrally, but some branches provide information on their websites.

Other Events

Members of the Fellowship regularly take part in Dickensian events arranged by other organisations, including for example:
