The Dickens Fellowship of Toronto received its charter in 1905 and is the oldest of several Fellowships and other Dickensian Societies in North America. All celebrate and sustain, through coming together in fellowship, the accomplishments of his novels and the life of Charles Dickens.

Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, and died on June 10, 1870 at the age of 58 in his home at Gad's Hill.

The Aims of the Dickens Fellowship are:

  1.  To knit together in a common bond of friendship, admirers of that great master of humour and pathos, Charles Dickens;
  2.  To spread the love of humanity, which is the keynote of all his works;
  3.  To take such measures as may be expedient to remedy those existing social evils, the amelioration of which would have appealed so strongly to the heart of Charles Dickens, and to help every possible direction in the cause of the poor and oppressed;
  4.  To assist in the preservation and purchase of buildings and objects associated with his name or mentioned in his works.
