Houston Branch

In 2011, the Dickens Fellowship attracted a new group of Dickens enthusiasts. The Houston branch has a flexible schedule which enables us to enjoy all things Dickens.  We enjoy delving into the world of industrial grime and drama by reading the novels, analyzing them, watching plays, movies, and musicals.

Inspired by the spirit of Dickens, we actively volunteer in the community and participate in local parades.  Our 2011 calendar of events came to an end as we marched in the traditional December Dickens on the Strand parade in Galveston, Texas.  As chimney sweeps, we engaged the crowd and enjoyed the festivities.

Prior to establishing the group of Houston enthusiasts, our core members individually visited the Dickens museum in London and caught the Dickensian fever.  We hope to one day be able to hold a meeting of the Dickens Fellowship, Houston in the basement of the museum which is filled with old editions of Dickens’ books.  Until that day, the Dickens Fellowship, Houston branch will continue to enjoy ourselves in the extraordinary ways we relate to Dickens and the Victorian Age.

We maintain a Facebook page and keep our members updated regarding monthly meetings and events. Dickens Fellowship, Houston is free and open to the public. We welcome new members with all levels of interests.  If you are visiting Houston,Texas or the surrounding area contact Sylvia Coy at coys@stthom.edu  and will plan our monthly meeting around your visit.
