Conferences

The annual conference performs a governing role in the organisation of the Fellowship and in addition provides a wide range of entertaining and informative events, usually linked in some way to its location. Recent conferences have been held in London, Bristol, Adelaide and Canterbury. Click here for the conference page.

London Programme

A substantial programme of events is arranged in London every year. It always includes a variety of informative and entertaining talks, typically given by leading scholars, and

  • a dinner to mark the birth of Charles Dickens (7th February 1812)
  • a commemoration service, traditionally at St George the Martyr, Southwark (Little Dorrit's Church), but in the chapel of Guy's Hospital while the church undergoes restoration
  • a wreath-laying ceremony at Westminster Abbey, to mark the death of Charles Dickens (9th June 1870)
  • a Christmas supper.

Branch Programmes

Each of the branches arranges a programme of events to suit local circumstances and membership interests. Details are not normally available centrally, but some branches provide information on web sites.

Other Events

Members of the Fellowship regularly take part in Dickensian events arranged by other organisations, including for example:

  • Dickens Festival, Rochester, Kent
  • Dickens Festival, Broadstairs, Kent
